Xenophora Crispa

Illustration
Xenophora crispa (aka Mediterranean carrier shell) is a species of sea snail that during its life incorporates “foreign bodies” (shells, pebbles, small coral pieces and other debris) on its shell. It is decorated with an irregular pattern of spirals and concentric lines, often interrupted by the hollows left by elements that had previously settled there.
Mutant lifeboat taking home / far away, aggregator of alien stories, maybe the writer Ursula K. Le Guin would have liked it.

This is my contribution to the exhibition “JUST HUMANS: 100 ILLUSTRATIONS WITHOUT BORDERS”, hosted at the Museo Egizio in Turin during “Torino Graphic Days” festival 2019.
